The rantings of Clinton Forbes: A rant about ’semantic markup’ zealots
Avoiding TABLEs can get stuck in your head so much that often valid uses for TABLEs go unnoticed. They can nearly always be replaced by DIVs and a bit of CSS, but sometimes a table is just a table. Don’t be afraid to use them.
This rings true to my pragmatic, real-world tested heart. Alex Russell, the creator of the Dojo Toolkit tends to agree. His message is Valid Nothing. Cope.
Mike Davidson provided the inspiration for the flippant yet reality based remark.
I, too, am an ivory tower semantic-loving nut job. Even still, when it comes to getting the job done I make what I feel are acceptable compromises. Life goes on.
Hi Casey,
Thanks for agreeing with at least one paragraph of my semantic-markup rant. It means a lot coming from a self-confessed semantic-markup nut-job.
I have copped quite a bit of flack about that particular rant, which is to be expected.
I love the idea of Mike Davidson’s Invalid Markup icon. I will try to come up with my own spin on that idea; it is very cool.
